The New National Curriculum 2014

In 2014, the Government introduced the New National Curriculum for primary schools. It determines the subjects that should be taught and the standard that children should reach in every subject. The Core Subjects of English (Literacy) and Maths (Numeracy) are at the heart of the curriculum. Other statutory subjects include: science, art and design, computing, design technology, geography, history, PE and Sport (including swimming), music and languages (in Key Stage 2 only).

Schools are also required to teacher Religious Education, although parents/carers can request that their children are withdrawn from part or all of these lessons.
