Our English Curriculum

At Stanton Road, our English Curriculum complies with the statutory requirements of the 2019 National Curriculum. The key elements of this are:

Spoken Word – this is delivered across the curriculum, with opportunities for pupils to use in a range of contexts, including drama, role-play, presentation, discussion and debate.

Word Reading- This is delivered primarily through our Read, Write Inc programme in F2 and KS1 and through Power of Reading Units across school.
Comprehension – This is delivered predominantly through Read, Write Inc and Power of Reading. Comprehension skills are also developed across Key Stage 2 through the Rising Stars Cracking Comprehension programme.

Writing – transcription including spelling- This is delivered through our Babcock/No nonsense Spelling Scheme, with opportunities for parents/carers to support with practice at home. Handwriting- we are currently in the process of reviewing our handwriting scheme. We will provide you with updates as soon as possible.
 
 
Composition – This is delivered predominantly through our Power of Reading Units. The children also develop their writing skills through the use of our Exciting writing resources.  Pupils access these materials in order to up-scale their writing.  Copies of the 'Exciting Writing' booklets used by pupils can be found by clicking the links below.
Grammar, Vocabulary and Punctuation -
 
Within Key Stage 1, these elements are taught  as age appropriate skills through our Read, Write Inc scheme as well as within our Power of Reading Units. 
Within Key Stage 2, these elements are delivered through Power of Reading units, Cracking Comprehension and through planned "SP&G" sessions, where appropriate.
