At Stanton Road Primary, we have prepared a mathematics curriculum that will provide all our children with the opportunity to reach the standard expected by the end of Year 6.
We believe that all children ‘can do maths’ and we aim to ensure through our daily teaching and additional support if required, children will have all the opportunities available to succeed in maths and enjoy their maths lessons. This philosophy runs through all our mathematics teaching.
We aim to provide all children with the opportunity to develop mastery in mathematics. This means that children acquire a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject. Children will acquire a solid enough understanding of the maths that’s been taught to enable pupils to move on to more advanced material.
Our planning is prepared using the White Rose materials and long term plan to ensure that all topics are covered in detail and progression is evident across year groups and key stages.
We aim to provide children with lessons and experiences that will ignite their enjoyment of mathematics throughout their Stanton journey.
Through our mathematics delivery, we aim to ensure that all children develop the three key principles of the mathematics curriculum.
• become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately;
• reason mathematically to make sense of mathematics and understand problems in a variety of contexts and forms and to justify or prove ideas using mathematical language;
• solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.
