Preparing for Our Future…

Transition

At each stage of education, we are preparing learners for future success in their next steps.

Pre-school to Primary transition

The transition from preschool to primary is a huge milestone in a child's life. This big step can be made easier if children know what to expect and have done some preparation. At Stanton Road this preparation starts with the Early Years Lead completing home/ nursery visits as well as a number of transition days in our setting.

Our five top tips to help manage your little one's transition from nursery to school.

  • Teach them independence. When children attend school they'll need to do a lot more for themselves

  • Role play

  • Focus on the excitement of a new start

  • Attend an open day

  • Do a walk through of the first day

Transition between year groups

Transition from year group to year group is also given high priority. Children are given time in their new class in order meet the staff who will be supporting them in the next stage of their school journey. Activities ensure that children are prepared and confident for the next stage.

Transition to secondary school

The transition from primary to secondary school is exciting for children and marks the next phase in their lives. Children recognise it as part of growing up and are aware that their lives are about to change in an important way. Like any change, it can also bring uncertainty. We work closely with secondary schools to ensure this transition is as smooth as possible, providing enhanced transition when needed.

Future Careers

Career-related learning helps primary pupils to learn about the world around them, broaden their aspirations and challenge stereotypes. The children receive quality career-related learning at Stanton Road from Reception through to Year 6. They learn about the careers of a variety of professionals and find out how, and why they followed a particular career path. We endeavour to provide our children with exposure to ideas that they may not get elsewhere.
